Fans' Influence and the Sequel's Vision

'One Tree Hill' is making a much-anticipated return, with Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan at the helm. The revival, set to air on Netflix, was first reported by 'Deadline' in August. Bush and Burton Morgan are eager to reconnect with their iconic characters, "Brooke Davis" and "Peyton Sawyer", after the series concluded in 2012.

The development of the sequel is still underway, with Bush expressing her excitement about the process.

"It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early. That was a bit of a bummer for us, because we wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party," Bush shared with 'Access'.

Returning as an executive producer with Burton Morgan, Bush raved that the process of developing the series has been "really incredible."

"The fans have kept that show alive, and they’ve asked for it for so long, and the studio came to us about," she continued. "I think 10 years ago, I would have said ‘not on your life.’ And now I realize that the opportunity to have not just a comfort show, but kind of a home base, matters for people."

Bush noted. The series originally aired in 2003 and ran for nine seasons, becoming a staple for many viewers.

The new installment will explore the lives of "Brooke" and "Peyton" as they navigate parenthood and face challenges reminiscent of the original series, such as love, insecurities, and grief. This continuation aims to provide a "comfort show" and a "home base" for its audience, according to Bush.

"What if you really can go back home?" they wrote.

"If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans?

Sign us up. There’s only 'One Tree Hill', after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where ‘everything’s better and everything’s safe.'"

Bush and Burton Morgan's joint statement reflected their enthusiasm: "What if you really can go back home?" they pondered, emphasizing the opportunity to collaborate with "brilliant creatives" and honor their fans.

The sequel is spearheaded by writer/executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards and Warner Bros. TV. Danneel and Jensen Ackles are also involved as executive producers through their Chaos Machine banner. Danneel is in discussions to reprise her role as Rachel Scott.

The project brings together a team of talented creatives, with Emily Moss Wilson joining as a producer. 'One Tree Hill,' which originally aired from 2003 to 2012, became more than just a teen drama—it left a lasting cultural impact on television, pop culture, and the lives of its dedicated fanbase.
