Olivia Newton-John, who usually lives in Australia with her husband, headed to Beverly Hills last weekend to auction off her original and most famous Grease outfit for a good cause. Two avid collectors really(!) wanted that leather jacket and the famous skin-tight pants Newton-John wore in the legendary final scene, in which she closes out the movie with the epic song "You're the One That I Want".
Grease: The leather Jacket and the pants sold for over $400,000
The leather jacket was eventually sold for $243,200 and the pants, which Newton-John had to be sewn into, brought in $162,500 bringing the total for the ensemble up to $405,700. Other memorabilia sold at Julien's Auctions included a jacket worn by the "Pink Ladies" ($50,000) in Grease as well as a poster ($64,000) signed by Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta and director Randal Kleiser and songwriter John Farrar.
A large portion of the proceeds from the auction will go directly to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Australia.
