James Van Der Beek's Health Revelation

James Van Der Beek, the beloved actor recognized for his role in 'Dawson's Creek,' has publicly revealed his battle with colorectal cancer.

In an exclusive statement to 'People' magazine, Van Der Beek shared, "I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.” At 47, the actor is navigating this personal challenge with a sense of optimism and a positive outlook on his future.

According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer originates in the colon or rectum, which are integral parts of the large intestine within the digestive system. This type of cancer can be life-threatening if not detected early, highlighting the importance of regular screenings and awareness.

Despite his diagnosis, Van Der Beek has not stepped back from his professional commitments. He recently made an appearance on the television series 'Walker' and is set to star in 'Sidelined: The QB and Me,' a Tubi original film scheduled for release on November 29. These projects demonstrate his dedication to his craft even amidst personal challenges.

Family remains a cornerstone of Van Der Beek's life. He cherishes time with his wife, Kimberly, and their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. In June, they embarked on a memorable trip to Egypt, where the family explored historical sites and created lasting memories.

Reflecting on the experience, Van Der Beek expressed, "#Egypt… With all my vocabulary, 'Wow' is what fell out of my mouth most of the time. We were gifted a magical experience, one I’m still processing - and might be for the rest of my life," Van Der Beek wrote, in part, in his caption.

"The kids were rock stars, my friends became brothers, and despite all the travel and time zone crossing and early-morning alarms, I feel recharged."

In December, Van Der Beek will participate in 'The Real Full Monty,' a two-hour special aimed at raising awareness for prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer testing and research.

This event will feature male celebrities, including Taye Diggs, Chris Jones, and Bruno Tonioli, who will strip down to draw attention to these critical health issues. Executive produced by Anthony Anderson, the special is inspired by the Oscar-nominated film 'The Full Monty' and will premiere on December 9.

Taye Diggs, reflecting on the event, noted, "Embarrassingly, I thought I was just doing Anthony Anderson a favor and supporting cancer. But then once we got there and we really started to talk about these issues, everyone started opening up and we got to know each other on a different level."
