James Read (67) never planned on pursuing acting, according to People. In 1986 he explained that he originally wanted to become a forester, but after discovering his love for theatre, he started studying acting. Read had his first big role in the series Remington Steele back in 1982.
James Read in North and South
Read gained international recognition playing "George Hazard" in the hit miniseries North and South alongside Patrick Swayze (†57) back in 1985. North and South is set in the 19th century at the time of the American Civil War. James embodied a young man from the North, whose best friend "Orry Main" (Patrick Swayze) is from the South. Despite their differences and the fact that they are on opposing sides, the two men manage to keep their friendship alive.
Read met his wife Wendy Kilbourne who played the role of "Constance Flynn" on set while filming North and South. The two have been married since 1988 and have two children.
James Read today
After North and South, Read played roles in a variety of series and movies. He starred in Charmed as well as in the series Wildfire from 2005 until 2008. However, he was never able to enjoy the same level of success as he had for his role in North and South. His last major role was in the soap opera Days of our Lives from 2014 to 2020.
