North and South was one of the most-watched mini-series of all time. Not only was the popularity of the show astonishing, but the speed at which Patrick Swayze (†57) became an international household name after starring in it was quite remarkable.
In addition to Swayze, the cult series boasted a smorgasbord of famous actors and actresses, including Kirstie Alley (71), who played "Virgilia Hazard".
North and South: Kirstie Alley fell in love with "Orry Main"
With so many talented and good-looking individuals in one place, it's no surprise that sparks flew on set! It was only decades later, in 2012, that Alley first opened up about her relationship with Swayze.
"There was no affair, but I think what we did was even worse. I, personally, think when you fall in love with somebody while you are married to another person, you endanger your own marriage and the other person's marriage as well. It is twice as bad," said Alley in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Kirstie Alley: Patrick Swayze was not her only crush
At that time, Kirstie Alley was married to Parker Stevenson, an actor who also starred in North and South, while Swayze was engaged to Lisa Niemi (whom he was married to for thirty-four years).
Nevertheless, Swayze was not the only co-star Alley allegedly fell in love with. She also confessed to having fallen for John Travolta, claiming he was the love of her life. Looking back, it's hardly surprising that Parker Stevenson and Kirstie Alley filed for divorce in 1997. The actress has not been married since then.
