- Snoop Dogg is giving up cannabis
- It has been his biggest trademark
- THESE are his reasons
A historically sad day for stoners everywhere is now here. "After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time," Snoop said.
The rapper doesn't shy away from the fact he just really loves getting high, whether it be having a quick joint before his 2022 Super Bowl performance or sending fans into a frenzy fighting over the opportunity to become his full-time blunt roller.
Snoop wants to make some big changes
The move will certainly come as a surprise to much of the internet as you don't really think about Snoop without thinking about how much he smokes, as he often speaks about it openly.
Known worldwide for his love affair with the green, Snoop's bombshell announcement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has left fans and followers in a state of shock and disbelief.
Fans poured in with comments ranging from shock to support, with one fan exclaiming, "Today isn’t April Fools day Snoop." Another chimed in with a poetic, "Snoop without smoke is like earth without water." Concerned voices also emerged, with a fan asking, "Are you ok??"
But wait, because there's a twist! This revelation comes on the heels of Snoop's comments about reducing his smoking and cannabis usage for the sake of his family, especially his grandkids. "Being a grandfather has changed me," Snoop shared with the Daily Mail, emphasizing his desire to see his grandkids' future.
"The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old," he said.
Despite this, Snoop's smoking escapades have been the stuff of legend. With a Clio Cannabis Lifetime Achievement Award under his belt and a claim of smoking up to 81 blunts per day, Snoop's decision to quit is nothing short of sensational. Will the rap icon stick to his word, or is this just a smoke screen?
He's a new man now
His advocacy for cannabis made him an important figure in the legalization movement, and it's unlikely he will stop being a businessman in the industry. In 2019, the West Coast emcee, 52, urged lawmakers to consider a "minority clause" as the call for marijuana to be legalized across the country grew.
"I think there should be some sort of minority clause, the way that they do in sports with the NBA and the NFL, where they make certain rules where the minority has to get the first dibs," he said during a Revolt Summit panel in LA at the time.
Also interesting:
It was once claimed that the rapper had someone rolling 75-150 joints for him per day, which he would later dispute and dismiss. But can you imagine if that were the case?
He is unquestionably a legend of the cannabis game, and many are wondering if this is just a temporary hiatus. Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure, this story has set the celebrity world ablaze!
It won't be the same Snoop without his smoke.
