- Shia LaBeouf has taken done career 180
- He has been wrapped in controversy in recent times
- LaBeouf has been confirmed into the church for THIS reason
Hold onto your rosaries, folks! Shia LaBeouf, the once-turbulent 'Transformers' star, has taken a celestial turn on his journey, diving deep into the sacred waters of the Catholic Church. For a long time now, the actor has been very public about his struggle to find his place in the world outside of film sets.
Shia wants to change his life forever
And so, LaBeouf has joined the Catholic Church. The Capuchin Franciscans – Western America Province couldn't contain their heavenly joy, announcing on Facebook that Shia has been confirmed. That's right, the 'Even Stevens' alum is now officially part of the holy squad!
The spiritual soiree took place at the Old Mission Santa Inés Parish in Solvang, Calif., where Shia said 'Amen' to a new chapter on New Year's Eve. But wait, there's more! The actor, known for his roles in 'Holes' and 'Peanut Butter Falcon,' is not just stopping at confirmation. He's got his eyes on the deacon prize!
"His decision to fully enter the Church is a testament to his sincere desire to grow in his relationship with God and live out the Gospel values," the Capuchin Franciscans-Western American Province said in a statement shared on their Facebook page.
"As Capuchin Franciscans, we believe in the transformative power of faith and the incredible impact it can have on one’s life. We are humbled and grateful to walk alongside Shia as he takes this important step in his spiritual journey."
Shia's confirmation sponsor, Brother Alexander Rodriguez, spilled the holy beans to the Catholic News Agency. After playing Italian priest Francesco Forgione in the 2022 flick 'Padre Pio,' Shia's been feeling the deacon vibe. "He just spontaneously said, 'I want to become a deacon,' and he still feels that way," Rodriguez shared. Talk about a plot twist!
We won't be seeing images of him on set like this ever again:
The famous story of Father Forgione was enough for him to take a look at his faith more deeply.
Prepping for his priestly portrayal, Shia got a taste of the monastic life, bunking with Franciscan Capuchin friars. Raised with a Catholic dad and a Jewish mom, Shia's no stranger to religious rituals, having experienced both baptism and a Bar Mitzvah. Now, he's all in on Team Catholic.
Shia LaBeouf has previously said he had a bar mitzvah and was baptized, as his mom is Jewish and his dad is Christian. LaBeouf is being sued for sexual battery and assault by his ex-girlfriend. The case is expected to move to trial this year. Shia has been arrested multiple times on disorderly conduct charges.
But his spiritual pivot comes after a stormy past, including allegations of abuse by ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs. The actor denied the claims but sought help, admitting to his struggles with alcoholism and aggression. "I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years," he confessed to 'The New York Times' in 2021.
Also interesting:
FKA Twigs called out what she saw as "gaslighting" in Shia's apology, a painful echo of their time together. The legal battle is set to hit the courtroom this October, but Shia's life has since welcomed new light with the birth of his daughter with Mia Goth.
There's no doubt that Shia has been a headliner grabber for good and bad reasons. But it looks like he finally found his forever path. What it means is that there will be no going back to the big screen for an actor that still had decades of movies left in him. But when the spirit calls, you must answer!
The Capuchin Franciscans are inviting us all to join the celebration and keep Shia in our prayers. As he walks the path of faith, perhaps his story will inspire others to seek their own spiritual enlightenment.
