Walmart's Black Friday, known for its irresistible offers and low prices, is getting a glitzy makeover this year. The company is set to release a series of commercials featuring the original cast of 'Mean Girls', Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried, among others. The twist? They're all grown up now, some even with their own "mean girls"!
"Walmart is really known for Black Friday, and we don’t intend to lose that positioning," says Courtney Carlson, Walmart’s senior vice president of marketing. The new commercials are touted to be "unmissable" across traditional advertising channels and social media.
Fans are so excited about this
The ad campaign, launching on a Wednesday is a nod to the Mean Girls' tradition of wearing pink on Wednesdays and it aims to draw early attention to holiday shopping. Walmart is set to roll out great deals and prices ahead of the actual Black Friday, scheduled for November 24, and Cyber Monday, on November 27.
"Some things never change. On Wednesdays we wear pink, but now we shop Walmart Black Friday deals," "Cady" says as "Gretchen" pulls up in a convertible filled with Walmart shopping bags. The ad revisits some of the movie’s most iconic scenes, from Karen’s air-headed weather reports to the famous "Jingle Bell Rock" performance with the sexy Santa costumes to match.
The commercial shows the cast reprising their roles at North Shore High School, except they're all grown up now. "Cady" is now the school's guidance counselor, "Gretchen" is a stage mom, and "Karen Smith", everyone's favorite meteorologist, is now a weather reporter.
Daniel Franzese, who plays his character "Damian Leigh" for the campaign, shares, "We think fans are going to be super excited to see us after all these years." The excitement is echoed by Lohan and Chabert, who express their joy at the cast reunion and the chance to catch up with each other.
Despite a recent photo leak of the cast that sparked Super Bowl commercial rumors, Walmart's Carlson assures that the leak was not intentional. The company kept mum, choosing not to fuel the speculation ahead of their campaign launch.

This isn't the first time Walmart has brought back pop culture icons for its Black Friday ads. In 2022, the company revived the 1999 satire 'Office Space' for a similar campaign.
The holidays have never been meaner, and we love it!
