A Romantic Proposal in the Heart of New York
The couple, who began dating in 2019, celebrated with friends and shared the joyous news on Instagram.
Wedding bells are set to chime for Nina Dobrev and Shaun White, as the couple recently announced their engagement. The actress, known for her role in 'The Vampire Diaries,' and the Olympic gold medalist snowboarder have taken the next step in their relationship with a memorable proposal in New York City.
According to 'Vogue', White proposed to Dobrev in late October, choosing the intimate setting of the Golden Swan restaurant for this special moment.
The romantic setting featured an arch adorned with white roses, under which White presented Dobrev with a stunning 5-carat diamond ring. The surprise left Dobrev momentarily speechless, as she later recounted, "I went into shock," she told Vogue. "I just froze and stared at him."
The evening continued with a celebration among friends, complete with caviar, champagne, and a playful twist as they ordered Shake Shack and dumplings.
White's proposal was not just a spur-of-the-moment decision; it was the culmination of a meticulously crafted plan. To ensure the element of surprise, White orchestrated a fake invitation for Dobrev, making it appear as though she was attending an exclusive CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour.
"He made the invite look so legitimate," Nina shared with 'Vogue'. Upon her arrival, she found only White and a photographer present, setting the stage for the unforgettable proposal. "He said all the right things," Dobrev recalled.
The couple shared their joyous news with the world through Instagram, with White posting a series of photos captioned, "She said YES." Dobrev humorously captioned the same images with, "RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé."
A Journey from Friendship to Love
Dobrev and White's love story began in 2019, although their paths first crossed at an awards show in 2012. Their formal introduction came years later at an event in Florida, organized by Tony Robbins. Reflecting on their first dinner together, White told 'People', "I actually didn't know anything about her.
The place was packed. And she was like, 'Let me go see if I can get a table.'"
Their relationship blossomed during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when they decided to move in together. The couple even embarked on a DIY home renovation project, painting the exterior of Dobrev's West Hollywood home. "We went to the hardware store bought a bunch of paint, and brushes and definitely got in over our heads, but it was really fun," White shared with 'People'.
Throughout their relationship, Dobrev and White have been vocal about the support they provide each other. White, who retired from competitive snowboarding following the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, has often praised Dobrev for her unwavering support. "Nina's just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me.
Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special," he told 'People'.
