During an appearance in The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 27-year-old singer and songwriter Nick Jonas announced that he will be the new coach in the upcoming season of NBC's singing competition show The Voice, joining Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton.
The news were revealed when Ellen showed videos of the veteran coaches welcoming the Jonas Brother: "Nick Jonas! How you doing, buddy? I heard that you’re going to be a new coach on The Voice and I wanted to, first of all, say congratulations. I’m not even sure if you’re old enough to be a coach on The Voice, but I’m certain that you’re going to get your butt kicked buddy," joked Shelton in the clip. On the other hand, Kelly Clarkson suggested that she and Jonas could team up: "I do definitely feel like the two Texans should maybe team up and form an alliance. I’m just saying;” while John Legend joked about "forming an alliance to destroying Blake Shelton."
This will be Jonas' first time as a coach on The Voice
After watching the clips the Jonas Brother said that he is very excited about this opportunity and revealed to the crowd that they are "basically the first people I’ve told, so thank you for being a part of this special moment for me." This will be Jonas' first season as a coach, but he is definitely not new to the Voice stage, in fact, he and his brothers Joe and Kevin, performed their single Cool during the season 16 finale of the show, back in May.
Season 17 of The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays; season 18 is set to premiere in Spring 2020.
