- Neil Young recently pulled out of Spotify
- He has now done a whole U-Turn
- THIS is the reason behind his change
This article dives into Young's turbulent relationship with Spotify, his demands for high-quality streaming, and his continuous fight against misinformation—all while he gears up for a new tour and album releases.
Neil fought the good fight
The "Heart of Gold" singer, Neil Young, has rocked the boat yet again, but this time, he's sailing back to Spotify's shores after a two-year hiatus. In a move that's got fans and critics buzzing, Young is hitting play on his Spotify boycott, but not without a few parting shots!
Back in January 2022, Young blasted Spotify for hosting Joe Rogan's podcast, a platform he accused of spreading dangerous COVID vaccine misinformation.
"Selling lies for money," Young roared, forcing Spotify to choose between him and Rogan. Spotify chose Rogan, and Young's tunes vanished from the platform.
But the plot thickens! Rogan's podcast is no longer Spotify-exclusive, and Young admits he can't fight the misinformation war on all fronts. With his music M.I.A. on major streaming services, Young's making a strategic retreat to Spotify, with a side of snark:
"Enjoy my songs...except for the full sound we created," he quips, lamenting Spotify's audio quality.
Young, a high-fidelity hero who once battled the iPod with his Pono player, is still not happy with Spotify's "low res" offerings. He's nudging his fans towards high-definition alternatives like Qobuz and Tidal, while hoping Spotify will up its game.

Despite his beef with Ticketmaster, Young's hitting the road with Live Nation for a North American tour with Crazy Horse. Plus, he's dropping a live album, "Fu##in Up," and a solo acoustic project, "Before and After," proving that not even a streaming spat can slow down this rock 'n' roll rebel.
