We all know and love actor David McCallum as "Donald 'Ducky' Mallard" on 'NCIS'. Although McCallum is often full of joie de vivre, he has suffered a terrible blow in his private life which has certainly changed everything in the actor's life. The TV star lost his son Jason when he was only 26 years old!
David McCallum opens up about his grief
During his marriage to Jill Ireland, 'NCIS' star David McCallum adopted Jason. The couple separated and Jill got custody of Jason and the couple's two other children. Then, a few years later, a tragic incident happened that derailed absolutely everything in his personal life!

In 1989, David's son sadly died of an overdose. McCallum spoke about the terrible loss in an intimate interview with the Belfast Telegraph in 2016 and he said this: "You never come to terms with the death of a child. The pain is very real, but it's like an ache that turns into anger.“
And further: "At the same time, there's a frustration that you couldn't really have done anything about it, which makes it even worse."
Decades later, the pain obviously still weighs heavy on David McCallum, and it will never really go away. Fortunately, after the tragic death of Jason, he was able to enjoy the birth of two more children with his second wife Katherine Carpenter. Today, David is beloved by television fans all over the world.
