When Kennedy McMann, who plays "Nancy Drew" in the 2019 re-imaging on The CW, received a letter from the original "Nancy" actress Pamela Sue Martin, she was extremely emotional: "It’s, like, tear-stained. I cried when I read it," McMann told journalists at a press event for the new show in August.

The young actress continued: "It had a lot to do just with the industry and standing up for oneself and making your own decisions and how to kind of transition into a role like this and the repercussions of that in Hollywood. It was very thoughtful."

Pamela Sue Martin only played "Nancy Drew" for one season

And that was not Pamela Sue Martin's only contribution to the remake that has a little bit of mystery mixed with suspense, horror and supernatural elements. The original "Nancy Drew" also has a small role in the new show, whose director was mightily impressed with her, as he told AP.

"She came so prepared," director Larry Teng told AP. "She was a real huge contributor." Back in 1978, Martin actually left The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries after season one when her role was significantly reduced, but she was apparently thrilled to be part of the remake.

Kennedy McMann: The new "Nancy Drew"

For McMann, the role of "Nancy Drew" is her big break - until she was cast she only had two acting credits to her name, one of them from a 2018 episode of Law & Order: SVU. McMann graduated Carnegie Mellon University in 2018 with a degree in acting.

Nancy Drew airs on The CW Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (8 central).
