'Modern Family's' Adorable "Dylan": Reid Ewing Through The Years

In 2009, American actor Reid Ewing became popular for his work as "Dylan Marshall" on the hit comedy Modern Family.

Meet handsome Reid Ewing!

Born on November 7, 1988, in Florida, Reid Ewing began developing in acting from an early age, including participating in school plays and small productions in the south of his home state.

He had only been in a few on-screen roles before Modern Family.

After studying at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in Palm Beach and the School for Film and Television in New York, Reid Ewing moved to Los Angeles in search of better opportunities.

After a couple of castings, the young actor landed a small role in the 2008 film Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

A year after making his acting debut, Reid Ewing appeared for the casting of a new comedy produced by 20th Century Fox Television and ABC: Modern Family.

The role was that of a distracted young man who was madly in love with the eldest daughter of the suburban Los Angeles "Dunphy" family.

After a series of auditions and castings, Reid landed the job! This is how "Dylan Marshall" was born!

While playing the clumsy, lovable, air-headed, and kind teenager on the teen series, Reid Ewing continued to add minor credits to his filmography.

He starred in films In Between Days (2010), South Dakota (2011), The Truth Below(2011), and Fright Night (2011).

He also had an important role in the Disney Channel shows Zeke and Luther and Good Luck Charlie.

As Reid dove into his work as "Dylan" in Modern Family, it was becoming more important. However, his character's presence in fiction starring Sofía Vergara and Ty Burrell got smaller and smaller between seasons 6 and 9. The same happened with his acting career, only accumulating 5 more jobs between 2013 and 2017.

Luckily, his character was so loved by the audience that he earned a main role!

In 2015, Reid Ewing spoke publicly about the strange physical transformation he underwent in recent years and why his appearance on screens had changed over time.

In November of that year, the actor published an honest essay in The Huffington Post where he confessed to having suffered depression and underwent a series of plastic surgeries to alter his appearance. He had no idea that he suffered from body dysmorphia, a mental disorder where fixations on your appearance are amplified.

"I genuinely believed if I had one procedure I would suddenly look like Brad Pitt."

Fortunately, after treatment, Reid was able to deal with his mental disorder and find happiness with his body.

"Now I can see that I was fine to begin with and didn't need the surgeries after all," he said in The Huffington Post.

After this, Reid was able to reprise "Dylan" more regularly and even went back to college!

Reid also proudly declared his homosexuality in 2015, something that his fans and co-stars applauded and recognized on social networks.

In recent years, the actor returned to the series, where his character had become a main character.

In 2020, he become a father in fiction, with his longtime girlfriend "Haley Dunphy" (Sarah Hyland). Then Reid Ewing said goodbye to the series in its final season.

Today, Reid Ewing continues to pursue another of his passions: music. He can play the guitar, the piano, and the banjo!

In addition, on his  Instagram account, he can be been seen happy with his boyfriend, Junhyeung Oh, and their dogs, including an incredible sausage named Joey!
