Mindy Kaling celebrated her birthday this week, and she shared a photo from the big event that shows her and her daughter Katherine!
As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Kaling turned 41 on Thursday, and she started off her day in a special way.

Kaling posts photo from her birthday breakfast on Instagram
Kaling shared a photo of her birthday breakfast outdoors, the space decorated with balloons and streamers to mark the occasion. In the picture, she and her 2-year-old daughter can be seen holding hands, facing away from the camera. "A very special birthday morning breakfast," Kaling wrote in her caption.
As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Kaling last shared a picture of her and Katherine for Mother's Day. "Sending a little extra love today to all of the moms, and to anyone who may be missing theirs right now," she captioned the photo.
"It’s nice how through my daughter, I am able to experience memories with my own mom. If you have a favorite memory about your mom or mother figure, I’d love to hear! #MothersDay."
Kaling shares why she doesn't say who daughter's father is
Kaling hasn't told the world who Katherine's father is, and with good reason! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, in an interview with The New York Times Magazine last year, she opened up about the topic.
"My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it," Kaling explained.
"I think people are often surprised that for someone who seems as open as I am on social media and who writes things that seem drawn from my life, I find that stuff [her relationship with Katherine] really private."
Kaling said she didn't think she had "a big maternal instinct"
Kaling also shared her thoughts on motherhood. "Right now I’m surprised at how much I enjoy being a mom... I did not think I had a big maternal instinct. I’m very impatient, and having a baby requires an amount of patience that I was worried about," she told The New York Times Magazine.
"But they don’t tell you that the thing will look so much like you, and do things that are so sweet and adorable, that you’ll naturally not have the same impatience that you would have with a stranger or someone who works for you."
