In 2018, many people all over California suffered through the traumatic wildfires that ravaged through people's homes, and Miley Cyrus was among those that experienced the traumatic natural disaster.
Following the loss of her home, the "Midnight Sky" singer is revealing how she and her voice have changed after being surrounded by so much smoke and devastation.
Miley's traumatic experience had after effects
After losing her home during the 2018 California wildfires, Miley Cyrus says the trauma of it all has permanently affected her. The singer revealed that there have been permanent changes to her voice following the smoke.
During the much-anticipated episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Cyrus revealed that her voice has never truly been the same.
"It’s coming out in a whole other way," Cyrus said of her voice.
"You know, I look at things different," she continued. "I’m very different, and honestly, my voice changed a lot after the fire."
"I could sing better after the fire. It was almost like it unleashed something," the 27-year-old said.
Joe Rogan then asked if it was a new kind of "pain" she experienced that caused this change, to which Cyrus added, "Yeah, maybe that’s what it is, maybe I earned it. Because I noticed that my voice got better as I had trauma."
At the time of the fires, Cyrus was in South Africa filming Black Mirror but luckily was able to call on her then-partner Liam Hemsworth to rescue their many pets as the flames jumped the highway, getting closer to her home.
In 2019, Cyrus opened up to Vanity Fair about the experience, saying, "I’ll never be happy that all those memories and pictures and things that I’ve loved are gone. But to have an experience like this — I find myself feeling more connected to being human again."
