Mel Gibson was born on January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York to Hutton Gibson and Anne Patricia. His father, who was a successful businessman and entrepreneur received $145,000 after winning a lawsuit due to a work related injury. This lead to the family of 8 to relocate to Sydney, Austrailia where the young Mel Gibson spent most of his youth.

Gibson studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) where he was classically trained in British theater and, later on, in screen acting. He was praised at a very young age for his abilities which eventually lead him to his first role in Max Max (1977) shortly after graduation.

He starred in both Lethal Weapon (1987) and Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) as well as other films like Tequila Sunrise, Bird On A Wire and Air America. Fun fact: Mel Gibson released a grand total of 3 films in 1990 alone! All of his films were met with critical acclaim!

During the 1990's, Mel Gibson was working on both personal and commercial projects. Some of his 1990's classic include Braveheart, Lethal Weapon 4 and Disney's Pocahontas.

During the early 2000's, Gibson directed one of his highly known, somewhat controversial Christian drama The Passion of the Christ. The film received all kinds of review ranging anywhere from very good to decent. More conservative critics claimed that the film was too violent in the portrayal of Jesus Christ.
