Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut. She is an American actress who initially had her start acting in the soap opera, As the World Turns from 1982-1984. In 1986, she had her first big film break in Top Gun, starring alongside Tom Cruise. The following year, she starred opposite Dennis Quaid in the movie Innerspace, whom she was married to from 1991-2001. Their son is The Hunger Games actor, Jack Quaid.
Meg Ryan became to be known as America's Sweetheart in the '90s, as she took on the leading roles in various romantic comedies, such as When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and You've Got Mail (1998). All three motion pictures earned her Golden Globe nominations for Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical.

In the 2000's, Ryan started acting in other genres of film, such as the thriller Proof of Life (2000) with Russel Crowe, and the drama Hanging Up (2000) with Diane Keaton. She also starred in many independent films between 2007-2009. In 2015, Ryan made her directorial debut for the film Ithaca. Despite her acting hiatus, Ryan has received many awards and accolades throughout the years, including the most recent 2018 Leopard Club Award during the Locarno International Film Festival.
