While speaking exclusively to People, Matthew McConaughey is opening up about his number one role he's ever taken - being a dad! The award-winning actor revealed it's always been a dream of his, and he's over the moon he's living out his fantasy.
Despite loving being a parent, life in quarantine during the novel Coronavirus has posed its challenges, and just like many parents out there, he struggled with finding the perfect way to do things.
Matthew McConaughey opens up about fatherhood
Like many other parents navigating through life during a global pandemic, it hasn't always been easy for Matthew McConaughey and his three kids.
Raising Levi, 12, Vida, 10, and Livingston, 8, McConaughey shares that it's been a delight, besides the challenges that have come along with it.
"They have doubled down on their hobbies, creative things and parts of themselves I don’t think they would have leaned into if they were back in school," the Oscar-winner said to People.
"One of the assets of this COVID quarantine is they’ve been forced to be more self-reliant. They’ve been forced to create their way out of their boredom," he added.
McConaughey shares one hobby all three have taken to is photography. "They’re into it — all three," he said. "They’re becoming a production crew. It’s very cool, they’re starting to get kind of good at it."
Along with photography, writing, storytelling, and music have been another newfound interest.
"They’re becoming pretty good storytellers," he shared. "Our youngest one will come fill us in: 'Oh, I’m on chapter two ...' Vida really likes to paint and draw and loves graphic novels. ... For Levi it’s probably more music. Basically, he came out of the womb knowing a minor from a major key on the piano. In the last six months, he really got into listening to composers, and he now can listen to a movie and tell you, 'Oh, that’s Hans Zimmer,' or 'That’s John Williams,' which is really cool."
McConaughey then went on to share that being a father was all he ever really wanted in life, and finds being a dad is both a responsibility and honour he doesn't take lightly.
"The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father," he says. "And it’s remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream. ... I can’t think of anything being more important."
Sharing that he and his wife Camila are set on parenting them to continue to be creative, kindness is another thing they wish to instill in their three kids.
"My hope is that our kids are conscientious and confident and autonomous. All three are very, very caring and kind individuals," he said.
McConaughey concluded, "I can tell you this: I’m happy and confident to say our kids do not question the love we have in our family."
