He married Diane Arbus in 1941. After Allan returned from serving in World War II, the couple opened their own fashion-photography studio, securing contracts with magazines like 'Glamour' and Vogue. Their studio mostly focused on fashion photography, but Diane gained fame for her portraits of unconventional people in society. They separated in 1959 and divorced in 1969, with Diane tragically committing suicide two years later.
