- She starred in 'Little House on the Prairie'
- Learn more about her argument with Michael Landon
It has now been around 40 years since Karen Grassle appeared in front of the camera as "Caroline Ingalls" in Little House on the Prairie. Today, she has looked back at her time on the series, revealing that not everything on set was peace, joy, and pancakes.
Grassle argued with Michael Landon over salary
Grassle told Closer that there was a dispute between her and Michael Landon while filming Little House on the Prairie. The actor— who played her character's husband "Charles Ingalls"— had taken on more and more important tasks since the start of the series. And as executive producer, he had something to say about the cast's salaries.
“When the show was in the top 10, and I said, 'Gee, it is time to renegotiate my contract,’ she told Closer, "Michael did not want to pay me. It was very difficult." However, this argument did not prevent them from negotiating further.
Although the two stars of the series had fallen out, they started communicating again shortly before Landon's death in 1991. "We had a friendly call about the good old days," Grassle said. "I was glad we had that healing."
Grassle also highlighted positive aspects of working with Landon, who she called "prodigiously talented." "He was constantly trying to make the crew laugh and make everybody happy," she shared. "A very hard worker and he could be quite moody — he had a lot on his shoulders that first year."
