- Laura Dern is a very successful actress
- She has two famous parents
- Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern and Laura Dern's mom and dad
Until Laura Dern (now an Oscar winner for her role in Marriage Story) showed up with her mother Diane Ladd as her date for the 2020 Oscars, not too many people knew that these two were even related! But did you know that Laura Dern has two famous parents?
Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd are Laura Dern's parents
Seeing how Laura Dern (57) grew up with not one but two parents who are actors, winning an Oscar eventually was definitely in the cards for the actress. In Marriage Story, she excelled alongside Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.
Laura Dern was actually conceived while her parents were filming the movie The Wild Angels, but only two years after Laura's birth in 1967, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd got a divorce. A young Laura was then mainly brought up by her mother and grandmother in California.
Just like her daughter, Diane Ladd (still gorgeous at the age of 88) was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. She actually has three nominations in that category for her roles in the movies Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1975), Wild At Heart (1991) and Rambling Rose (1992). Other notable roles of hers were in movies like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) and Chinatown (1974).
Laura Dern and Diane Ladd were nominated for the same movie
When Diane Ladd was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Rambling Rose, her daughter Laura was in fact nominated as Best Leading Actress for the same movie! This was the first time that a mother-daughter duo was nominated for the same movie in the same year. Unfortunately, unlike her daughter, Diane never did win one of the coveted trophies.
Laura Dern's father is also an Oscar nominee
Laura's father Bruce Dern also has a couple of Oscar nominations to show for. The 87-year-old actor was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his work in the 1979 movie Coming Home and again as Best Lead Actor in 2014 when he excelled in the critically acclaimed film Nebraska.
Also Interesting:
Other great performances by Dern include roles in The Great Gatsby (1975), Tattoo (1981) and The Hateful Eight (2015). He also had a small role in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 hit Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood.
