It's always important to be open and honest with your children, and Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have always maintained that level of trust with their two daughters.
Creating a healthy narrative around Shepard's journey toward sobriety, the two girls hilariously found a way to show their support for their daddy.
Kristen Bell finds daughters drinking O'Doul's
On Tuesday's episode of Say Yes! podcast with Carla Hall, Kristen Bell shares a hilarious, albeit sweet, moment in which her daughter showed her support for her dad's ongoing sobriety journey.
Bell reveals the perhaps unconventional taste her two daughters, Lincoln, 7, and Delta, 5, have grown to enjoy in order to feel closer to their dad.
"I'm going to get a lot of flack for this. And let me start by saying I don't care," Bell said. "You're allowed to give me any advice you guys want, any of these listeners. You're welcome to tell me I'm a terrible parent. I don't care. I'm a great parent, I think. I'm learning every day."
Dax Shepard, who has recently celebrated 16 years of sobriety, often comes home with the non-alcoholic beer, O'Doul's.
"My husband brought home a six-pack of O'Doul's last night. And my daughters often ask for O'Doul's," she started. "The reason for this is because when we first had our child and my husband would put her in her BABYBJÖRN and we'd walk around the neighbourhood, he'd pop a nonalcoholic beer in his hand and the baby would paw at it and put the rim in her mouth."
"It's a sentimental thing for my girls, right? It makes them feel close to their dad," she said.
Bell goes on to share that the two of them often have O'Doul's with their dinner, and occasionally, the girls join in.
"I mean, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just essentially a bubbly juice. Right? There's nothing in it," she said. "We also talk to them very much about [Dax's] sobriety and the importance of it and why Daddy can't drink."
Bell then goes on to share the hilarious moment she walked in on her daughter drinking during class.
"They have 15-minute breaks where they're allowed to jump around and grab a snack and wiggle it out," Bell said of their homeschool. "And I walk in to check on them at 9:30 and both of them are drinking an O'Doul's on their Zooms."
"They're both just sipping their Doulies. And I'm like, 'What must these other parents and teachers think of me?'" she laughed.
"And then I remind myself, 'You don't care, Kristen. They can pretend like you're doing something wrong.' I would argue that I'm not, because it's nonalcoholic," she continued.
"If anything, it opens up the discussion for why Daddy has to drink non-alcoholic beer because some people lose their privileges with drinking. Drinking's not always safe," she said.
