As the 'In Memoriam' tribute of the Emmy Awards took place, fans were surprised that Kobe Bryant, Kelly Preston and Nick Cordero were not apart of this year's ceremony. The award event took place virtually this year, in order to follow social distancing guidelines for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Kobe Bryan, Kelly Preston and Nick Cordero Excluded from 2020 Emmys
While Kobe Bryant may not have been an actor, his death sent shockwaves around the world when he died in the January 26th helicopter crash. The fact that the virtual ceremony took place at the famous Los Angeles Staples Center, AKA "the house that Kobe built", was even more peculiar as to why Emmy organizers did not include the legendary basketball star.
Meanwhile, viewers were also disappointed that former Jerry Maguire actress, Kelly Preston, did not make it into the tribute either. Kelly passed away on July 12th, 2020 due to breast cancer.
Broadway performer and Law & Order: SVU guest star, Nick Cordero, was also not represented in the tribute. As he passed from complications of COVID, spectators were quite appalled that his name was not mentioned.
Other celebrities not mentioned during the segment include Academy Award winning actress Olivia de Havilland, Mythbusters' Grant Imahara, and Monty Python co-creator Terry Jones.
The reason for not including many of these stars is due to time constraints, which is always an issue for many award ceremonies. However, the Emmys have a list of the remembered icons covered on their official website.
