While it may come as no surprise, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are juggling with the idea of divorce, according to a source close to the couple.
Following West's mental health breakdown, rumours of divorce are circulating, as more information about the unstable marriage comes to light.
Kim Kardashian has had enough
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been considering divorce for some time now, and it would seem the latest controversy surrounding West's mental health could be the last straw.
West's behaviour has been erratic following his 2020 presidential announcement. Since then, he's made an emotional speech and a string of tweets that have left fans and family concerned for his well being.
Late Tuesday night, West wrote on Twitter that he had been considering divorcing Kardashian since November of 2018.
Now, an insider has confirmed, "divorce had been in the process for several weeks."
Another source close to the couple also revealed to People, "There has been enough communication, both in the past few days and in the weeks prior, to establish that both sides feel the marriage is over."
The source said that discussion of divorce "had been a long time coming," the two even going so far as "attempting to figure out the most amicable and loving co-parenting situation" in regards to their four children.
"But now Kanye has, well, he has gone down a different path. Both in terms of deciding to announce his presidential bid, and also in terms of how he is choosing to express himself and the things he is choosing to say," the source added.
"They have work to do, as parents and as spouses who want to end this phase of their relationships," the source continued. "Kanye knows all of this, and everything that is happening right now is just like a horrible sideshow to what the real issues are."
The source added, "First and foremost, he has some needs that have to be met, urgently. Then they need to move forward in terms of structuring a split that can be amicable and healthy for both of them and most of all for their four children."
According to the source, the couple "were already nearing the end of their marriage" before West's outbursts.
"There have been multiple attempts to talk to him about the situation, but right now nothing is proving successful," they said.
The source then revealed where Kardashian is at emotionally, putting all her energy into her children.
"Kim is also a mother and a fierce protector of what she holds dear: her children first and foremost, but also her image and her reputation and what she's worked for," they said. "She is not going to standby and act like what Kanye is saying and doing doesn't matter or doesn't have a lasting impact."
"They are done," the source adds. "And it's time for some real work to be done to get everyone healthy and moving forward with their lives."
Reps for Kardashian and West have yet to say anything on the matter.
