- Kelly Clarkson is dropping her last name
- Kelly has explained reason for the change
- Her talk show name said to stay the same
Kelly Clarkson is now the star formerly known as Kelly Clarkson! As several outlets have now revealed, the singer and talk show's host request to change her name was successfully granted on Monday, and an insider has commented on the news.
Clarkson to just go by first and middle name
Last month, Kelly filed to legally change her name. At that time, the star expressed her desire to be known as just "Kelly Brianne," dropping her last name entirely. She explained in the filing that this rebranding "more fully reflects who I am," and it could also have to do with her desire to separate herself from her father, who she has a difficult relationship with.
March 28 saw Kelly's request become legally binding, with the Superior Court of California making her name change official following a hearing. "The Decree is signed and filed," the court document reads, according to Entertainment Tonight. "The Petitioner's name is changed from KELLY BRIANNE CLARKSON to KELLY BRIANNE."
