Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she was once mistaken for another American Idol winner— Carrie Underwood! Clarkson recounted the hilarious incident on Friday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, explaining what had happened.

Clarkson admits she signed autograph as Underwood

Clarkson's confession came when she played the game "I'm Awesome At Being Awkward" with Cheryl Hines and Michelle Buteau, who were her guests on that day's show. "This girl came up to me and was like, 'Oh my god, your song 'So Small' is one of my favorites,'" the singer shared. "And I kept thinking, 'I don't have a song 'So Small.' However, it turned out that the girl thought she was someone else entirely!

"And then she said another song and I was like, 'Oh, you think I'm Carrie Underwood.' And I literally look nothing like Carrie Underwood," Clarkson continued, laughing as she recalled the encounter. "I was so embarrassed for her that I just…She was like, 'Can you sign this?' And I totally signed 'Carrie Underwood.' I think that might be illegal!"

Clarkson not the only celebrity mistaken for Underwood

Clarkson's game also revealed that Hines and Buteau have had their own run-ins with mistaken identity! Hines shared that she's been confused with Julie Bowen from Modern Family, and Buteau said people have gotten her mixed up with Raven-Symoné and Kim Coles.

Funny enough, Clarkson isn't the only celebrity to recently get mistaken for Underwood! That's because as Entertainment Tonight mentions, someone confused Reese Witherspoon with the country superstar earlier this year. "To the woman in the parking lot who just asked me if I was Carrie Underwood: You officially made my day!" Witherspoon tweeted back in June.

Underwood then ended up seeing the hilarious tweet and replying to Witherspoon. "YOUR day?!?!?!?! That lady just made my whole life!" she exclaimed, adding several heart emojis. And while it wasn't a case of mistaken identity, Underwood herself ended up making a mistake last month when she forgot to thank her family while giving her acceptance speech at the ACM Awards, which she apologized for later that evening!
