Returning to the studio on Monday for the first time in six months, Kelly Clarkson addressed her divorce to her fans and got candid about the split from Brandon Blackstock.
Sharing two children together, both Clarkson and Blackstock are putting them first and making sure they stay protected as they discuss a way to move forward as a separate household.
Kelly Clarkson's emotional reveal
Like many other talk show hosts, Kelly Clarkson has been away from her studio, and finally, on Monday, was able to return. Her first order of business was relaying to her fans what we're all wondering.... how is her divorce being handled?
"As you probably know, 2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life," Clarkson said.
Normally open with her audience, Clarkson also reveals she may be quieter than normal about this chapter of her life, to protect her two children with Blackstock, River Rose, 6, and son Remington Alexander, 4.
"Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came, but what I’m dealing with is hard — it involves more than just my heart, it involves a lot of little hearts," she continued to say to her virtual audience.
Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock on June 4 of this year and said that because they both have been previously divorced before, this time they have a perspective on it that can help them move forward positively.
"We know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts," she continued. "So I’m usually very open and I usually talk about everything but in this case, I will talk a little bit here and there about how it affects me personally, but probably won’t go too far into it because I'm a mama bear and my kids come first."
As for addressing how she's personally doing, the singer says that she is okay.
"Everybody keeps asking ‘Are you ok?’ and I am — the answer is yes," she said, before continuing on to share how she's been coping.
"When I got upset when I was a kid I had a problem saying how I felt and my mom told me to start writing," she said. "And that’s actually how I get my feelings out, so I probably won’t speak about it too much but you definitely will hear it musically."
She continued about what fans can expect, saying, "That’s how I became a songwriter. Music has always been my outlet to get through difficult times and this year I’ve been listening to a lot of music and I’ve also been writing a lot of music as well."
The Kelly Clarkson Show airs every Monday on NBC.
