Keke Palmer is officially set to host the 2020 MTV Music Video Awards! As Entertainment Tonight reports, MTV announced the news on Thursday, sharing a new promo for the awards show along with it.
Palmer reprises character "True Jackson" in MTV promo
Palmer can be seen having a conversation with "True Jackson," in the promo MTV shared. As Entertainment Tonight mentions, "True" is a character that Palmer played in the 2008 Nickelodeon show True Jackson, VP. But instead of VP, her character is now CEO!
"Damn, looks like we're both a big deal," Palmer remarks in the spot. She's also shown rapping about how excited she is to host this year's MTV VMAs, which "True" can be seen dancing along to!
Palmer called "an energetic force" and "a quadruple threat"
Palmer takes over from last year's host of the MTV VMAs, stand-up comic Sebastian Maniscalco. Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events for ViacomCBS Media Networks, made a statement about Palmer taking on the hosting gig.
"We’re thrilled to have the multi-talented Keke Palmer as this year’s VMAs host," he said. "Keke is an energetic force and a quadruple threat with unmatched comedic wit who will make this year’s show truly unforgettable."
Palmer being named as host of the ceremony comes a week after the MTV VMAs 2020 nominees were announced! The awards show is set to air on Sunday, August 30 on MTV, broadcast live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However, it's currently uncertain whether or not there will be a live audience. Tune in to see who the night's big winners are, and how Palmer does as host!
