Katharine McPhee was initially worried about what people would think of her dating David Foster because of their age gap! On Monday, McPhee appeared on Dr. Berlin's Informed Pregnancy Podcast, where she opened up about her years-long relationship with the composer.
McPhee was "very concerned" about public judgement
McPhee first connected with Foster back when she was on American Idol in 2006, and the two became good friends over the years. However, she admitted that she "had a real process" when it came to accepting their relationship, hesitating for it to turn romantic because of how other people would perceive things.
"It took me a while to kind of come around to really want to have a real, serious relationship because I was very concerned with what people would think," the actress and singer said, referring to their substantial age difference. Now 36 years old, McPhee was worried about how the public would react to her dating 71-year-old Foster.
McPhee says her love for Foster is "all that matters"
McPhee took her commitment to Foster to the next level when they got married in 2019, and in February, the two welcomed their first child together! While she admitted that she understands how people can pass judgement on her relationship with Foster, McPhee shared that she's now focusing on what matters.
"We all have the ability to label things and to look at something for the way that it looks or face value and make a judgment," she said. "So I totally get the judgment initially, but things are never as they appear, things are never exactly as they appear and I'm in love with our love story and that's all that matters."
