John Mayer has revealed that some of the most influential words he's been told came from none other than Elton John! As Entertainment Tonight reports, Mayer appeared on Andy Cohen's talk show Watch What Happens Live this Wednesday, where he was asked what the best advice he has received from a fellow musician is.

Mayer shares Elton John's words: "Welcome to the world of bulls**t"
Mayer told Andy Cohen that it was in fact the legendary performer Elton John who has imparted some of the most meaningful words upon him. "Elton John said to me back in 2002 when I was going through my first public relationship snafu, he said, 'Welcome to the world of bulls**t, my darling, you have arrived," Mayer shared.
The year that John gave him this advice saw Mayer being romantically linked to both "A Thousand Miles" singer Vanessa Carlton and actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. Since that time, Mayer has dated many A-list stars, including Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, Jessica Simpson, and Taylor Swift.

On the flip side of things, Mayer was also asked what the harshest critique he has ever received from another celebrity is. Without naming names, he shared an ironic experience where a fellow celeb actually did the exact same thing he'd criticized Mayer for! "Somebody, a legend, said to me one time, 'You know, you don't have to try to be so funny all the time,'" Mayer told Cohen. "And then he tried really hard to be funny on the thing we were on".
