Jharrel Jerome was born on October 9th, 1997 in the Bronx, New York to his Dominican family. He is proud and vocal about his very supportive and loving Afro-Latino family who encouraged him to pursue his interest in the artistic craft of acting.
Growing up he studied at the Riverdale Children's Theater and eventually attended the prestigious Ithaca College where greats like David Boreanaz, Bob Odenkirk, Kerry Butler, and Ben Stiller. Quickly Jharrel was cast in the Best Picture-winning independent film Moonlight. Barry Jenkins directed the coming of age piece following a Black American's struggle adapting to a harsh and homophobic world.
Moonlight ended up earning the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Drama, the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Jharrel and Ashton Sanders also won the coveted MTV Award for Best Kiss! Their win was an impressive milestone as it was the first time two Black men have won the award.
Jharrel has since been continuously landing new roles like as "Omari" in Netflix's First Match, the main role in the Stephen King adaptation series Mr. Mercedes, and most recently in the critically acclaimed Netflix series When They See Us based on the real-life tragedy of the Central Park Five. For his portrayal of Korey Wise, Jharrel won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor, NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie!

According to Vulture, When They See Us director Ava DuVernay was so impressed with Jharrel when he auditioned for adult Korey Wise she ended up casting him as both young and adult Korey. Jharrel is very grateful for the powerful women in his life, and when asked about how lucky he is to have the supportive women in his life Jharrel told Vulture, "You have no idea. It took at least ten strong, independent women to make this happen for me. My entire team is women - my two managers, my publicist, my mom. My teachers were women."
Now he has completed filming for the Western Drama film Concrete Cowboys, starring alongside Idris Elba, Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin, and Method Man and he is focusing his efforts into his music career!
