  • THIS is how his approach to acting has changed

Delving into his fears and the mental hurdles of returning to acting, Renner's candid discussion offers a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind the scenes. Discover how this Hollywood heavyweight is navigating his comeback, one positive thought at a time.

Renner changes his game

"I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel," Renner said. "I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all this stuff. I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, so I can progress, so I can always keep growing."

Jeremy Renner, the action-packed star known for his roles in blockbusters and the 'Mayor of Kingstown,' recently bared his soul about the daunting journey back to acting after his life-threatening accident. Speaking to the hosts of the 'Smartless' podcast, Renner didn't hold back on his "energy crisis."

In January 2023, Renner faced what many would call a nightmare. A 14,000-pound snow plow, a Sno-Cat, ran over him, leaving him with severe injuries. But it wasn't just the physical scars; the incident left an indelible mark on his psyche.

"I can’t just go play make-believe right now."

Despite the trauma, Renner made a brave return to the set of 'Mayor of Kingstown' to film its third season. Yet, the fear was palpable.

"I was very terrified," he shared. The thought of diving into fiction when reality was so harsh proved to be a monumental challenge for the actor. "It was very, very challenging for me mentally," Renner confessed.

"Because I’m to do, like, f--ing fiction? I’m still trying to live in reality, I’m trying to live. So it was a hard line for me to cross," he explained. "It was a big stretch. It was very, very challenging for me mentally to get over that hump."

"I still struggle with it sometimes to, like, I don’t take it super seriously. I’m in a character that I can do very well and I know the show very well, so it was easy for me to kind of slide back into it," Renner said of his role as "Mike McLusky" in 'Mayor of Kingstown.'

"But if it was a very challenging role, I couldn’t have taken it. Not challenging in the sense that — because the show’s challenging, but it’s if I had to go play Dahmer or something, something so far from me."

Renner's role as "Mike McLusky," a character he knows inside and out, became a safe haven for him.

"It was easy for me to kind of slide back into it," he said. However, the thought of tackling a role far removed from his reality, like playing a character akin to Dahmer, was out of the question.

"I couldn’t have taken it," he stated, highlighting the mental and emotional toll his recovery has taken.
