Jean-Claude Van Damme: Meet His Children

His oldest son is Kristopher Van Varenberg, who has worked hard to follow in his father’s footsteps both in martial arts and acting. He has worked with his father on 13 different movies.

Kristopher has 15 credited movies in total, and therefore, has only worked on two without his father’s direct help. Out of these, he only stars a main role ‘Frenchy’, produced in 2020.

Jean-Claude Van Damme spoke with ‘This Morning’, where they spoke about him helping his son in the movie industry:
“I have to [help him] because here's the problem — it's not easy to get launched in the film business and me, as a father, if I can help my son to become famous — and my daughter — I think, why not? I think it's cool I can use some of my name to help them. If they are no good they will not survive.”

Bianca Brigitte Van Varenberg was curiously enough not a fan of martial arts. Instead, she liked speed skating until she had an accident and had to leave the sport.

After her accident, she had to find another pastime and she found it in martial arts, following her parents’ footsteps but with a feminine touch, as she told ‘Page Six’: “I want to show little girls and little boys that you can be physical and feminine."

Professionally she is also following in her father’s footsteps in showbusiness but trying to rely less on her father or his name, even changing her name to Bianca Bree. She told ‘Page Six’: “It's complicated. I always have people coming up and telling me how much they love my dad. It's nice to hear, but it's like, what does that have to do with me?”

Van Damme’s youngest child is Nicholas Van Varenberg, who is also the product of another marriage and was therefore distanced from his siblings and his father for some time. Van Damme had an affair while Nicholas’ mother was pregnant and only talked about it in 2012, which could also have damaged the father-son relationship. Finally, both his parent’s failed marriage as well as Van Damme’s descent in movies seemed to have a toll on the boy. Van Damme told ‘The Sun’: “The only way I can bring my son back is to be successful again as they were saying to him, 'Your father is a loser.'”

Professionally he hasn’t achieved much success as an actor, having only two films to his name. One, ‘Three Coyotes’, still in production, and the other had small earnings. To make things worse, he was accused of endangering his roommate’s life with a knife. Nicholas had hit an elevator wall in his apartment complex, leaving a trail of blood leading to his room. An officer followed said trail and knocked on the door to ask, which made Nicholas mad, causing the whole knife ordeal. He ended up pleading guilty and paying a $10,000 fine to avoid jail. After that, he bragged about having a rich and powerful father, according to ‘NickiSwift’.
