• Jane Fonda went quiet for a while
  • A film offer got her back on her feet
  • She is still grateful to her colleague to this day

Jane Fonda is one of the most successful stars in Hollywood. But she has also had to face rough times during her career. Of all people, it was another celebrity who finally helped her pick up her career again after 15 years without a new role. Said celebrity is no other than actress and singer Jennifer Lopez.

Jane Fonda admitted this to Daily Mirror where she spoke about her decades-long career as an actress, activist, and fitness guru.

Despite her iconic status, Jane said it wasn't until her role alongside J.Lo in the 2005 film The Monster in Law that her career took off again.

Although the film was ridiculed by critics, Jane amazingly called it the "only smart thing" she ever did in her professional career.

Which singer did Jennifer Lopez portray in a biopic?

Jane Fonda had not acted in a film since 1990

Before starring with J.Lo, Jane hadn't starred in a film since 1990, alongside Robert De Niro in the title role in Stanley and Iris.

The two-time Oscar winner told the Daily Mirror

"The biggest stroke of luck was getting the role in Monster-in-Law at a point in my career when I had been out of the acting business for 15 years or more. It was with Jennifer Lopez, and it was a great comeback for me."

"I was almost 65 years old when I got this script out of the blue. It was the only smart career thing I ever did. I thought, ‘People are going to come to the movie to see J.Lo, but they’ll rediscover Fonda’, and that’s what happened."
