James Cameron and wife Suzy are filing a petition to gain guardianship over their daughter's best friend. The 16 year-old girl and her family are struggling these days, and the Cameron family is stepping up.

The Cameron family stepping up

James Cameron and his wife Suzy are doing the best they can to help a dear friend of one of their three daughters. The 16 year-old girl is struggling to find a safe place to reside, and the Camerons are stepping up.

According to a document obtained by People, Cameron and his wife are filing a petition to gain temporary guardianship over the teenage girl.

The young woman was living with her biological parent's in New York before they separated, and fell ill. Because of financial issues, the family became homeless, and now the teen has no permanent residence.

In the petition, the Camerons write that the money troubles and health problems are "rendering them increasingly unable to care" for their daughter.

Cameron also shared that during all of this, his daughters and the young girl in question have maintained a close relationship. Since September 2019, the young girl has been living with the Cameron family, and attending a private school.

They also share that the young girl is in "a wholesome and stable home environment" where she has been cared for "as one of their own children," the couple said in their petition.

They also are saying that the teenager is now "thriving" in their current home, and that she wishes to continue to stay with the family, with the allowance from her parents.

Part of the reason the Camerons are petitioning for guardianship is so they are granted the right to take the young girl out of the country, as James Cameron is filming the next Avatar film in New Zealand.
