Jada Pinkett Smith has decided to open up about how she handles a complicated money matter! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the latest episode of Pinkett Smith's Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk saw her discuss her own gift-giving policy— which includes not lending money to others!

Pinkett Smith shares her advice: "don't feel guilty"

Pinkett Smith offered some words of wisdom during Tuesday's episode of the show, which she hosts with daughter Willow Smith and mom Adrienne Banfield-Norris. "I would also say for people like us who came from backgrounds where we didn't have much, don't feel guilty," she said.

"I’ve spent so many years feeling guilty, and my guilt made me feel like I owed everybody and I wasn't allowed to say no," Pinkett Smith continued. "And that's just not true, right? So I came up with a couple of rules for myself. First of all, I don't lend money. I only give money that I'm willing to give away--like, this is a gift."

Pinkett Smith addresses the issues lending money can cause

Pinkett Smith went on to talk about why she is firmly against giving people money unless it comes without conditions. "I do not lend money because that turns into a lot of problems just as far as the expectation of people paying back and what have you," she said, "so I tend to not give where I can't just say, 'Here's a gift to you.'"

She shared that she also doesn't want to strain important relationships with those in her life. "Specifically people who are really close to me 'cause I'm not trying to have fallouts over money," Pinkett Smith explained. The actress and host also mentioned that she assesses the financial circumstances of someone who wants some extra financial help before giving money to them!

"I really evaluate to see if the person is ready for that help. You feel me?" she asked. "So it’s like —somebody’s like, 'I want a new house,' but they don’t have a job to support the house they’re trying to buy." As Entertainment Tonight mentions, the episode also saw Pinkett Smith— with the help of New York Times writer Philip Galanes and comedian Kim Whitley— give advice to someone asking how to deal with family members who request money!
