- Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up
- She has spoken about Will's Oscar slap
- THIS is what she had to say
Jada Pinkett Smith recently explained why she believes she took so much blame from the public after husband Will Smith infamously slapped comedian Chris Rock onstage at the 2022 Oscars. The 'Red Table Talk' host told 'People' magazine in an interview published on Thursday that she thought that rumors suggesting she was the reason why Smith slapped Rock were "ridiculous."
"But I also understood at the same time," she said. "Considering the false narrative that I had cheated on Will or I was like some adulteress, Will had never done that before." She added, "And I think that when we just look at human nature... when you look at the breadcrumbs, people need something to blame. And so people not knowing what was happening behind the scenes, I surely wasn’t surprised that I got blamed," she added.
Jada wants to clear the record
Perhaps there is a lot more there than meets the eye. Jada Pinkett Smith, who is promoting her new memoir, 'Worthy', says that Chris Rock asked her on a date prior to husband Will Smith slapping the comedian at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. In an interview with the publication that published online Wednesday, Jada said that Rock’s offer followed media reports claiming that she and Smith were set to divorce.
"I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce," Pinkett Smith said. "And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?'"
She continued, "I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized, and that was that."
It has recently come out that she and Will have actually been separated since 2015 and had been living apart. For many fans, it was a mind-blowing shock to hear that their relationship has been on the fritz for way longer than expected.

In her interview with 'People', Pinkett Smith also said that she hasn’t spoken to Rock since Will slapped him on the stage during the Academy Awards telecast that aired March 27, 2022. The confrontation followed Rock joking onstage about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. The actress had previously spoken publicly about living with alopecia.
"Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me," Pinkett Smith recalled about the immediate aftermath of the Oscars incident. "He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old shit.'"
Regardless of why it happened, it's clear that Jada has a complicated emotional life. Jada in a new interview that she and late rapper Tupac Shakur were "soulmates" who have possibly travelled a few "past lives" together. So, Will wasn't even her true love, in the first place. Was any of it ever real?
Will's career in the meantime has been shattered by the scandal and it doesn't look like Jada will be on screen anytime soon either. For now, it seems to be a time for healing all around.
