Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have caused a lot of confusion for fans about their 23-year marriage. For the past few years, they have spoken about how they don't identify as "married" anymore, instead, they are in a "life partnership" and are working on their "friendship" and rumors of Jada having a relationship outside of wedlock have swirled. Now finally the rumors are being put to rest.
Rapper August Alsina Claims He And Jada Pinkett Were In A Relationship
The drama first started when fans read deeper into some birthday posts that Jada Pinkett and the rapper 21 years her junior, August Alsina, dedicated to each other. Then fans speculated that a few songs he wrote were about Jada. One song featured the lyrics "you got me feeling like it was an act, you're just an actress putting on a show 'cause you don't want the world to know," while August is texting a girl named "Koren" which is Jada's middle name.
For years he denied the claims until he recently spoke with The Breakfast Club's Angela Yee and admitted that he had indeed been in a deep relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith while they were married but that he did it with Will's permission and he was under the impression that the two were separated. "I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing," he told Angela Yee.
Jada Pinkett Smith On Her Relationship With August Alsina While Married To Will
Jada had decided to bring herself to her own Red Table Talk and come clean to fans who have been wildly speculating about the love triangle. She and husband Will spoke about what happened to clear up the rumors. Jada and August had met through her son Jaden Smith and were first friends until Will and Jada Pinkett were almost completely separated. According to the the conversation, Jada believed they were done while Will said they were almost separated.
Will said that August first came into their lives when he was really "sick" and the family helped him through that. Then when "We were over" Jada flippantly said she and August got into an "entanglement" until Will pushed her to admit it was more than that to which she said, "Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely."
She did acknowledge that August may not have given August permission to be with Jada, that "the only person that could give permission in that particular circumstance is myself." Will joked that "I feel like that husband like I'm with you at the press conference. I gotta be with you at the press conference while you tell the world about your transgressions." Jada denied that it was a transgression and her love and romance with August was necessary for her growth and healing.
There was some visible tension and Will suggested he was going to do something to "get back" at his wife but the two ended the conversation on a happy note, with Will saying "We came together young and we were both broken in our own ways, and to be able to make mistakes without the fear of losing your family is so critical," and that "we ride together, we die together, bad marriage for life!"
