- Emma Raducanu is a British tennis star
- She's been training for clay tennis courts
- Raducanu says she "has no toenails" left
I'm sorry, what? Emma Raducanu, 19, has opened up about a pretty extreme side effect of her tennis training.
The British tennis star was making her pro debut on a clay court, and the intense practice apparently caused her to lose all her toenails!
No toenails? Emma Raducanu's unusual reveal
Emma Raducanu was speaking ahead of her match in the Billie Jean King Cup, being played on clay. "I have no toenails," she said, according to The Guardian.
Emma explained that it is "just my foot, my shoes, they've just been sliding around a lot." That friction seems to have caused the unusual toenail problem.
Also interesting:
Despite the trouble with her feet, the practice paid off: Emma Raducanu emerged victorious in her first-ever clay match on Friday. She defeated Czech tennis star Tereza Martincova.
The Billie Jean King Cup is being held in Prague, Czech Republic. And Emma Raducanu — toenails or not — looks like a force to be reckoned with.
