'House of Cards': All About Kate Mara's Career So Far

Born February 27, 1983, Kate Mara began developing a passion for acting at the age of nine. After graduating high school a year early, Mara would get her first break in 1997 with Law & Order. She would continue with small roles over the years until receiving more critical acclaim following this next film...

In 2005, Kate Mara took on the role of Heath Ledger's daughter in the Academy Award-winning film, Brokeback Mountain. The film would cast her into the spotlight and help her to keep landing big roles. 

Starring alongside Matthew McConaughey in 2006's hit biopic, We Are Marshall, would only continue to make Kate Mara a household name. Playing the part of cheerleader Annie Cantrell, Mara shines in the heartfelt drama. 

Kate Mara's next big break would come in 2008 with the Brad Anderson thriller Transsiberian. Starring alongside Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer, and Ben Kingsley, Mara would get her first shot at taking on a leading role and proved her talent was real. 

Another big television role Kate Mara excelled in was as "Hayden McClaine" in the first season of American Horror Story. Starring in eight episodes of the series, Kate helped to make the show the hit that it has become! 

Perhaps the best-remembered role of Kate Mara's career so far is Mara as reporter "Zoe Barnes" in the award-winning drama House of Cards. A major player in the world of "Frank Underwood", Kate Mara would leave her mark on the series throughout the first and second seasons. 

Another great film role Kate Mara has played is "Sue Storm" in the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot. While the film did not receive the best of reviews, Kate Mara shined for playing the part of the "Invisible Woman". 2015 also saw Kate Mara in the hit space thriller, The Martian. 

One of the biggest films of Kate Mara's later career has been starring as the titular character in the 2017 biopic Megan Leavey. Mara's performance was both strong and moving, leading her to receive praise from both critics and fans. 

While she has stuck mostly to film following House of Cards, Kate Mara has recently starred in a number of hit series including the 2018 drama series Pose and most recently Hulu miniseries A Teacher. 

For just turning 42, Kate Mara already has an impressive resume and has become a household name. Her family including her husband Jamie Bell, their daughter, and her stepson remain her biggest fans! We look forward to seeing more of the talented 'House of Cards' actress!
