Richard Burton had a memorable acting career
Burton began his acting career at the age of 24 and became one of the best character actors of his time. The actor had an impressive career, appearing in over 70 films.
Some of his films, such as 'The Spy Who Came in from the Cold' or 'Equus', even earned Burton Oscar nominations - a total of seven!
Burton's health started declining early
While working on the set of 'Cleopatra', Burton met Elizabeth Taylor (†79), with whom he became lovers not just on screen. The two Hollywood stars were married twice!
The acting legend died of a brain hemorrhage in Geneva on Aug. 5, 1984, at just 58 years old. Although his death was unexpected, Burton's health had deteriorated over several years, suffering from constant and severe neck pain.
In 1970 he was told that his liver was enlarged and in 1981 he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and kidney disease.
