Rita Wilson is helping raise funds for artists affected by coronavirus while showing off her surprising rap skills! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the actress hopped into the recording studio to record a remixed version of "Hip Hop Hooray" with the track's original artist, Naughty By Nature. Wilson posted a video of herself recording it on Instagram, with a caption explaining how the collaboration came about!
Wilson says the rap song is "like modern day Shakespeare"
Wilson shared that she had originally learned "Hip Hop Hooray" for a role she played in the 2019 movie Boy Genius. Saying that it's "like modern day Shakespeare," she explained what made the song so uniquely challenging. "It took me a month to learn because it’s so complex and nuanced; it was like training for a marathon," Wilson revealed. "The rhythms and tempos are so unique and creative".
That's why last month while she was in self-quarantine, Wilson shared a video of herself rapping the song. "When I was quarantined and recovering from COVID-19 I wanted to see if I still remembered it, kind of like a brain exercise. To my surprise I did. I thought it would be fun to put it on my Instagram to show people I was doing okay and to make them smile," she said.

Wilson's rap video noticed by "Hip Hop Hooray" original artist
Wilson wanted to share some fun and positivity when she posted the video of her rapping, but she certainly didn't expect it to be seen by the group who originally performed it! She said that she "couldn't believe it" when Naughty By Nature commented on her video... which is what ultimately led to Wilson collaborating with them to remix the song!
"What a joy to be doing this remix with legends of the Hip-Hop world," Wilson said of her unexpected musical partnership with Naughty By Nature. "I’m forever grateful for their generosity of spirit and for being able to raise money together for @musicares COVID-19 Relief Fund".
