Kate Garraway spoke to Hello! magazine and revealed that her husband Derek has had a recent breakthrough during his battle with COVID-19. He "has emerged from a deeper coma into a minimum state of consciousness" and opened his eyes.
The 53-year-old said, "We're keeping positive and doing everything we can to bring him round. The children and I communicate with him every day on FaceTime, while a nurse holds his iPad," she said according to Hello!.

Kate Garraway: "He Sometimes Opens His Eyes"
"I really believe he can hear. When medical staff say: 'Good morning, Derek,' he sometimes opens his eyes. We and the doctors are doing everything we can so that he can start to recover," Kate continued.
Derek was admitted into the hospital in March and since then, Kate has been by her children's side. The doctors have reportedly urged her to "not put my life on pause." She is now preparing to return to the Good Morning Britain show and her slot on Smooth Radio.
Derek currently remains verbally unresponsive and doctors have warned that he could remain in this current state. However, there are encouraging signs that he can hear. Kate has been unable to visit due to the current hospital rules and regulations surrounding COVID-19. Kate and her children remain hopeful, and we are sending positive and healing vibes to Derek and the whole family!
