In August 2023, ten-year-old Sara Sharif was found dead in her home in Woking, England. Her father Urfan Sharif had previously confessed in a phone call from Islamabad, Pakistan: "I killed my daughter."
This shocking news led to an investigation that brought the cruel circumstances of her death to light.
A harrowing case of child abuse
Charges were brought not only against the father, but also against his wife Beinash Batool and his brother Faisal Malik. Both are alleged to have been involved in the abuse.
The results of the forensic examination are shocking. Little Sara suffered at least 71 external injuries. According to a report in the 'Daily Mail', the list of injuries includes bruises, abrasions and stab wounds.
Particularly gruesome are the burn marks on her buttocks, which are said to have been caused by an iron, as well as bite marks on her forearm and the inside of her thigh.
The pathological examination also revealed multiple fractures, including to the ribs, collarbone, shoulder blades, arms, hands and spine. An injury to the lungs and scalded ankles were also found.
The agonizing last weeks of Sara Sharif
The abuse that Sara Sharif suffered extended over a long period of time. At the time of her death, she weighed only 27 kilograms. The investigation revealed that she was beaten with objects such as a rolling pin and a cricket bat.
Shocking statement from Sara's father
After Sara's death, her body was hidden under a pink blanket to give the impression that she was sleeping. Urfan Sharif explained in a phone call from Pakistan: "I beat her up, it wasn't my intention to kill her, but I beat her up too much."
