David Sutcliffe is in some hot water with Gilmore Girls fans after rumours circulated he took part in the historic event of domestic terrorism that took place in the U.S. Capitol Building in early January.
Although he denied taking part in the events, his response irked fans and he still received some major backlash for his tweet.
David Sutcliffe addresses Capitol riots rumours
As the world watched in shock and displeasure over the Capitol riots, it would appear that David Sutcliffe didn't take the whole thing very seriously, despite the fact that 5 people were left dead, including a Capitol officer.
Strangely, rumours that the Gilmore Girls actor took part in the riots circulated, but Sutcliffe said he wasn't there.
Sutcliffe, who played "Christopher," "Lorelai Gilmore's" on-and-off love interest and "Rory Gilmore's" father on the beloved series, retweeted a rioter smoking cannabis during the riots.
"There are rumours circulating that I 'stormed the capitol,'" he said.
He continued, "Not true – though I would have been proud to share a smoke with this great Patriot!"
Not only did this response rub many fans of the show the wrong way, but Sutcliffe also pinned the tweet to the top of his page, furthering disapproval.
Sutcliffe never offered up any explanation for his tweet, and some are hoping it was a joke.
One user wrote, "Guys…is it possible he’s kidding? I literally saw this days ago and laughed and moved on thinking it was an actual joke. I feel like he’s sitting at home laughing…watching the outrage. If it’s not a joke then…I’m concerned. And sad. And worried," he said.
Sutcliffe just responded, "Correct." to the tweet.
It's unclear where Sutcliffe stands politically as well as where the rest of the cast stands, but in 2016, Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said in an interview with Vulture that there was "no evilness" in "Stars Hollow," and said that A Year In The Life purposely ended before the election results so as not to have to comment on the results.
