Daniel Kaluuya has a surprising reason for not attending the world premiere of his movie Get Out! Earlier this month, Kaluuya made a virtual appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where he revealed the surprising truth about his absence from the event— he wasn't invited!
Kaluuya says he wasn't invited to first Get Out screening
Kaluuya's performance in Get Out was critically acclaimed, and the actor even received an Oscar for his role as "Chris" in the Jordan Peele-directed thriller! However, one thing he didn't receive was an invitation to see the movie's first screening, which took place at the Sundance Film Festival.
"They didn't invite me, bro," Kaluuya told Norton, sharing that he'd even freed up his calendar in anticipation of the premiere. "I was in Atlanta shooting Panther [Black Panther]," he said. "I was chilling, I cleared my schedule. I was like, 'I really wanna do it.' And then just didn't get the invite."
Kaluuya doesn't want to be where he doesn't "feel wanted"
Kaluuya laughed about how during the night of the Get Out premiere, he was "just in my bed." He also mentioned that he got a text about the movie from someone who was there, saying that "'It's done really well.'" However, even though Kaluuya didn't get to go to the premiere, he doesn't feel like he missed out.
"You don't want to be in a place that you don't feel wanted, you feel me?" the actor told Norton, after the talk show host suggested his omission from the guest list was a mistake. As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Kaluuya is set to star in another movie directed by Peele. The currently untitled project also stars Keke Palmer, and is expected to be released in July 2022!
