'Flip Or Flop': This Is Why Tarek and Christina Broke Up

For a long time, husband-and-wife team Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack were one of TV's most successful couples. But why did HGTV's Flip or Flop stars divorce in 2016?

The life of the real estate couple Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack changed entirely during their time on Flip or Flop.

The couple had their breakthrough on the HGTV series about renovating and reselling houses. But so much pressure wasn't always easy for a marriage. El Moussa and Haack divorced in 2017.

Flip or Flop: What happened with Tarek and Christina?

Tarek and Christina had to overcome a lot during their marriage. Just when the couple was at the height of their career in 2013, Tarek was diagnosed with cancer. Even so, they continued to work on Flip or Flop.

While El Moussa was open about his thyroid cancer, it was also revealed in 2017 that he kept another cancer secret from the public. In addition to thyroid cancer, he was also diagnosed with testicular cancer.

These were all major stress factors for the couple's marriage. Tarek told Country Living of the toll it all took on him: "I had my cancer, and I was filming.

"Then my second cancer and I was filming. And then I hurt my back and I was filming, and then I had surgery and I was filming."

The couple also wanted to have more children after their daughter Taylor (b. 2010). So in addition to the show and dealing with cancer, they tried to get pregnant again. Sadly, Christina miscarried after only eight weeks.

When she got pregnant again, she had to undergo bed rest. But she returned to Flip or Flop just a few weeks after giving birth to their son in 2015.

It wasn't an easy time for the couple and they often argued as a result. "We argued on set and then had to go home together," Christina once told Good Housekeeping.

The stresses from work always went home with them. And they both realized that they functioned better as colleagues.

"We met at work, so we worked together before we ever started dating," Christina explained. Then, following a mysterious incident in which Tarek disappeared for several hours police were called, they broke up in 2016.

Some things just aren't meant to be. Christina married Ant Anstead in 2018 but also split from him last year. Tarek has been with Heather Rae Young since 2019.
