The singer and actor had been teasing the news on social media and has now shared that the album, 'Harlequin', will be released on 27 September.
- A new Lady Gaga album is coming
- It is part of the new 'Joker' sequel soundtrack
- HERE is what fans can expect
Lady Gaga is owning the mood
The track list for the album suggests that covers from the film, such as "Get Happy and Oh", "When the Saints", will be mixed with new material. Gaga had already announced that the first song from her seventh studio album would also be dropped in October. The full album will be released in February.
In the movie, Gaga stars as "Lee Quinzel" – more commonly known as infamous comic book character "Harley Quinn" – in 'Joker: Folie à Deux,' the long-awaited sequel to the Todd Phillips-directed original 2019 'Joker' movie. Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Ken Leung, among others, round out the cast.
Gaga has previously earned critical acclaim for songs she’s written for movies in which she starred.
In 2019, Gaga won an Oscar for original song for “Shallow,” which she wrote and performed in the 2018 film “A Star is Born.” She was also nominated in the same category last year for her 'Top Gun: Maverick' song “Hold My Hand,” and in 2016 for “Til It Happens to You” for the movie 'The Hunting Ground.'
Another significant project was her collaboration on the soundtrack for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 film ‘Joker.’ Gaga’s involvement in this film marks a new chapter in her career, showcasing her versatility as both a musician and an actress.
The songs she creates for this project are expected to delve into the complex psyche of her character, and resonate deeply with the film's dark and intricate themes.
“I wrote a waltz for the movie,” Gaga said to 'Vogue' recently. “And I had a live piano player, Alex Smith, whom I asked to be with me for my scenes. There are moments in the film where I’m playing an adult woman who sings like a little girl. And she’s moving through the world with this kind of immaturity, which I thought was interesting.”
Gaga's ability to craft memorable songs for films has not only enhanced her artistic repertoire but also solidified her status as a prominent figure in modern cinema. Her music often becomes a critical component of the films' storytelling, allowing audiences to connect more profoundly with the characters and their journeys. With each new project, Lady Gaga continues to push the boundaries of her craft, leaving an indelible mark on both the music and film landscapes.
But the movie is not super well-received at this point.
The film premiered at the Venice film festival earlier this month to mixed reviews. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw called it “as strident, laborious and often flat-out tedious” as the original but marked it was an “improvement”

'Harlequin' appears to be separate from Gaga’s upcoming seventh studio album that she’s also been working on and teasing on her social media pages. Earlier this month, she announced that the first single of her new studio album will be released on an unspecified date in October. The album will be the followup to 2020’s 'Chromatica.'
'Joker: Folie à Deux' premieres in theaters on October 4 worldwide.
