Elvis Presley was born on Jan. 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Vernon Elvis Presley and Gladys Love Presley. He had an identical twin brother named Jesse who was unfortunately stillborn.

The music legend grew up as an only child and had a sheltered childhood. The family didn't have much money, so music and singing always played a large role in young Elvis's life.
He sang in a gospel choir early on. At the age of 10, he took part in a children's talent competition in Tupelo and placed in the Top 5 — a sign of big things to come.
Elvis Presley: Career beginnings
In 1953, Elvis produced a record entitled "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartache Begins" for his mother's birthday.
At that time, Elvis still had to pay for the sound recordings himself. But the investment was worth it — some time later, the record company signed him.
With the song "Heartbreak Hotel," Elvis made his international breakthrough in 1956. Then even Hollywood became aware of the young man. Elvis Presley would release 73 albums over the course of his career and make a total of 33 films.
